These resources have been hand picked by the team to help show you what tools are out there and how they can help you.
Being completely transparent, we have not used every single one of these resources. Where we have not used it before, we have done thorough research on its reliability and quality before including it. Many of these resources are used by some of the industry’s top professionals and can certainly help you to grow your online presence.
Continuing the theme of transparency, we feel it necessary to inform you of the following:
Some of the links below are affiliate links. This means that we may be compensated by the companies for referring you to their products. This will never cost you more. We would like to reiterate that only quality products and services have been recommended below.
WordPress Web Hosting
Choosing the right web host for your business is very important, as speed, security and location can have a big effect on your Google ranking. There are many different types of web hosting – we’ve written an article about it, appropriately titled Which type of web hosting is right for me?
I have used
WPEngine have a reputation as one of the best in the business. Having recently acquired an additional $250m in investment, rest assured that these guys aren’t going to disappear any time soon. The speed and security offered is great, as well as the expert customer service.
A more basic hosting option, but provide some of the best support in the industry. Over the two years that we hosted with them in the past (for different projects) we would estimate that the longest we ever had to wait on live chat was 2 minutes. The speed is fairly good, especially considering the cost.
I’ve heard great things about
Kinsta is a big name in the Cloud hosting world, utilising Google’s own Cloud network. Their security is, in their words, like Fort Knox and their speed is incredible. If you want a long standing and reputable cloud hosting company, look no further.
Our recommended web host is…
Flywheel (hosting with Flywheel is included in our Management plans)
Specialist tools, slick dashboards and fantastic support make Flywheel a pleasure to deal with. Our Management plans include hosting with Flywheel. You get added to our plan with them which allows us to more efficiently manage your hosting.
Email marketing providers
Having an email list can help you greatly when promoting new products or giving updates on the progress of your business.
We currently use
Aweber, whilst including everything mentioned for Mailchimp above, feels a lot more well rounded. When a mailing list grows in to the thousands, Aweber comes in to its own and handles things far better than Mailchimp.
We’ve heard great things about
Convertkit does everything that Aweber does and more. Although Converkit do market themselves to small businesses, as well as big ones, we feel that Convertkit is really made for companies with subscribers in the six figures. It is a fantastic suite of tools but its full email marketing suite with sequences, automations and a huge number of integrations do, in our opinion, gear it towards a larger company. It is fantastic though.
Our recommended email marketing provider is…
Its ease, price and number of features make Aweber a dream to work with and is great for anyone – newbie to professional.
Your website needs to stand out from the crowd. These providers can help you do that.
As you may have seen, we am building a few different options. Our industry targeted WordPress templates are great, as are the third party templates that are included and are easily adaptable. However, if you wish to just buy the template and do it yourself, see the options below.
The developers of the Genesis framework. We love StudioPress and think that most of their templates are great to work with and are incredibly flexible. JenksDev is built on Genesis.
Elegant Themes are the developers of Divi, Bloom, Monarch and other great tools. Divi is a very adaptable theme that can be used to build almost any kind of website.
So you’ve got a website and an email marketing provider, but how do you get people to subscribe to your mailing list and interact with your website?
In our opinion, the best lead capture tool out there. It has a huge variety of tools that can lead to huge email list growth. It has been developed with speed and usability in mind and certainly doesn’t fail to deliver.
Developed by Elegant Themes to capture emails of your audience and grow your mailing list. A great tool that is included with the Elegant Themes suite.
A huge suite of tools that include a basic email capture tool, heatmap tracking and many other analytical tools – for free! Although there are a number of paid upgrades available.
Building courses for your students
Perhaps you’re an expert and want to share your knowledge with the world. Here’s a few good resources for that.
We have never used this, but when searching for a solution to offer our planned future courses, Teachable is top of the list.
Udemy used to be the power player. There are other solutions available but Udemy’s course structure is really helpful.
Keeping your website secure should always be at the forefront of your mind. These tools can help put your mind at ease.
JenksDev Management packages
We’d like to think that our packages offer you peace of mind for your website performance and security. We perform regular scans, take backups and will restore your website for you if it is hacked. We also perform various optimisations to secure your website against unwanted visitors. The supplied hosting is also incredibly secure.
A firewall service, with built in Content Delivery Network, that blocks many unwanted visitors from your website and can ban their IP addresses or their country if it gets repetitive. Their support is also incredibly useful, albeit a bit slow.
Useful and inspirational books
Most of the team have read the books below and they’ve certainly helped us along the way.
4 Hour Work Week – Tim Ferris
An insightful book that focuses on mindset and working smarter, not harder.
Tools of Titans – Tim Ferris

How to test your new business idea to see if it’ll work.
Let Go – Pat Flynn
A book about overcoming challenges to become successful in your own right.
The $100 Startup – Chris Guillebeau
A simple, insightful and funny book that helps get a business started on a tight budget.
School of Greatness – Lewis Howes
An incredibly inspiring book that helps change your mindset and, as the title suggests, achieve greatness.
Images often bring websites to life. We’ve gone for a minimalist approach for our website this time around, but we use these for our clients’ sites.
A large selection of free images.
Partnered with Pixabay, Shutterstock is a paid option with a huge array of images to choose from.
DeviantArt artists will often allow you to use their images in exchange for a link back to them.
Flickr Creative Commons
Images that are licensed for commercial use with no attribution.
With new data protection laws coming in to play, file security is of utmost importance.
We don’t just recommend Google Drive, we recommend G Suite, which includes Google Drive. We're writing a large piece of why every business should be using G Suite, but here’s a brief summary… It’s possible to collaborate with coworkers, secure files, have unlimited storage and a vast array of tools.
Dropbox’s new offering – collaborative tools – help them catch up slightly with G Suite, but not quite enough. However they are still worth of a mention as their service is excellent.
